Dar Tassa
|
|
 |
|
Dar Tassa, literally meaning
the home of motherly love in the local Berber language, extends
a heartfelt welcome to all who wander to our corner of the world.
A luxury House in a serene, mountain setting, Dar Tassa is located
just over 60 minutes drive from Marrakech inside Toubkal National
Park, home to the highest peak in North Africa (Jbel Toubkal 4165
m). Our cozy refuge provides an escape from the hustle and bustle
of the city, with all the modern comforts and added charm of traditional
Moroccan hospitality. From the moment you arrive we greet you
with a steaming cup of mint tea. The wild nature of this place
and the warm nature of its people help you understand that marhaba,
"welcome", is more than an expression, it's our way
of life here. |

Crowning the high altitude hamlet of Tassa Ouirgane
(at 1300 m), Dar Tassa's tiled rooftop provides a restful platform from
which to soak up the stunning 360 degree panaroma: spanning the snow capped
peaks of Toubkal Park, sweeping down to give a bird's eye view on daily
life in a sleepy Berber village, and flowing along the verdant riverbank
to the distant vistas of the Azzedine Valley. |

Do You Promise Not to Tell?
| This secret corner
of the Park is a quiet alternative to the swamped trekking bases,
yet still easily accessible via taxi or a car. No matter which direction
you venture, our doorstep is a trailhead into every degree of Toubkal's
most stunning terrain. For the easy going, the Dar's environs spoke
off into a wide range of relaxing strolls. For the diehard alpine
enthusiasts, hiking, climbing, riding and adventure opportunities
abound to suit every ability. |

| Do it All, or Do Nothing at All |

Or if you prefer, leave your boots behind and take part in any of the
plentitude of Plan B's. Get behind the wheel to brave the heart accelerating
bends of the famed Tizi-n-Test road (boasting Morocco's highest pass at
2092 m). Hop out to explore the architectural marvel of the historic Tin
Mel mosque (1156 AD), seat of the ancient Almohad dynasty (and open to
foreigners). For the bon vivants with a
bon appetit, indulge in regional specialties at one of Ouirgane's fine
dining establishments (though nothing can beat a piping hot plate of couscous
prepared in a traditional Berber kitchen.) And if its extreme serenity
you seek, tranquility was trademarked in this peaceful haven. On a quiet
day, you can actually hear the cushions call you to curl up in their arms
and catch up on your cat naps.

What really puts our refuge on the
map is its location in the shadow of the Takkerkhort Reserve, a
long established sanctuary for the regal Barbary Sheep, endemic
to Morocco and protected under the jurisdiction of the Eaux et Forets
(Water and Forests Department of the Ministry). We can even arrange
for resident experts to guide you into the refuge to give your binoculars
a better chance to spot some wild and wooly members of this magnificent
endangered species. |

Mi Tassa es Tu Tassa
Dar Tassa's owners, Andrea & Brahim Barkhouche,a native Moroccan,
felt compelled to return to his family's ancestral homeland and create
a haven where he could share the magic of this mountain eden with its
next generation of caretakers. They had taken great care to build the
Dar in a respectful, traditional manner, using local materials and employing
local craftsmen. They aspire to create a sacred space that will benefit
and preserve this sacred region for years to come. And now, their family
opens the doors to you. (Even if you weren't born here, it won't be long
before you feel like a member of our flock.)
